"We Cant Meet Your Needs" - Housing Discrimination Against Seniors with Disabilities
Presenter:
Alisha Anderson Bierma is an attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Minneapoliss Housing Discrimination Law Project. During her first year of law school, Ms. Bierma completed a Borchard Fellowship on Law and Aging focused on disability-based housing discriminations against senior citizens. Ms. Bierma is a magna cum laude graduate of Carleton College and the University of Michigan Law School.

Educator, trainer and consultant, specializing in change and transitionAging includes losses. Not only the common changes in health, but related losses of relationships, power, unfulfilled dreams, even the timing and manner of death and dying. It is crucial that professional caregivers and volunteers be alert to such losses and be ready to assist individuals and families with grieving. In this practical session, perspectives and tools to aid the grieving process will be heard and discussed. Also, the inextricable ties between grief and hope will be addressed.

Prior to working at Volunteers of America MN, Mary was the Care Consultant/Outreach Manager at the Alzheimer's Association.

Dr. Barclay is currently in independent practice in Edina where he performs neuropsychological evaluations, psychotherapy, and family interventions for individuals with dementia and their care partners. He is also a clinical neuropsychologist with HealthEast Care System and St. Joseph's Hospital and consultant for the geriatric research division of Los Angeles-based Vital Research, LLC.

- Describe the signs and symptoms of early dementia and the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral changes that take place with disease progression.
- Discuss strategies for early detection and diagnosis.
- Explain the role of a neuropsychologist and what cognitive testing can offer.
