Communications
Chrysauna Buan

Chrysauna’s Biography:
Chrysauna is the Events/Volunteer Coordinator at St. Therese Southwest, where she has worked since 1992. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in Psychology and has worked with seniors her entire career. As a MASWA board member, Chrysauna on the Communications Committee. She also serves on the Chaska/Chanhassen Youth Lacrosse Board as the Girl’s Lacrosse Coordinator and the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk Planning Committee.
Committee Description:
The Communications Committee is a committee of MASWA members who maintain an up-to-date, accurate and effective print and electronic communications system for use by members and the community.The Job Committee provides information to members looking for positions in the field of aging as well as to employers seeking qualified staff.

Gretchen’s Biography:
Gretchen Scheffel, MSW, LISW holds a Master’s of Social Work degree and is a licensed independent social worker with many years of experience working in the health care and aging field since 1991. Since 2002, she has been the owner of Circle of Life Aging Services, a company that provides education and training, senior care coordination and is the parent company for TempSocialWork.com. Her social work experience includes home care, hospital and nursing homes. In addition, she has worked at two counties conducting crisis response, adult protection as well as providing service to older adults and mentally ill in the community. From 2007-2009, Gretchen worked for AgeWell assisting with the creation of their assessment tool and also serving as the Director of Housing Solutions. Outside of operating a small business, Gretchen enjoys spending time with her family and involvement in her children’s activities as well as church groups.

Committee Description:
The Conference Committee works with the Senior Workers Association of the Greater St. Paul Area to present the Annual Conference. The Committee determines the site, menu, theme, program, speakers, recruits sponsors and exhibitors, handles promotion and publicity, registrations and many other tasks associated with hosting the conference.

Jeri's Biography:
Jeri Gort, LISW, has her Masters Degree in Social Work from the U of M, (1983), and worked at St. John’s Hospital and Home Care in 1983/84 and then worked for over twenty years as a school social worker with Minneapolis school children and their families.  She has worked with pregnant teens, young mothers, children with hearing impairments and children with autism.  In 1996, she raised funds and initiated a non-profit character education program called Best Friends that served over 200 Minneapolis inner city young women over seven years. 

In 2007, Jeri switched careers and joined the business that her father began in 1995 (formerly known as Caring Companions) and currently owns and operates the Hennepin County office of Touching Hearts at Home, providing caregiver services to seniors and people with disabilities.  She is thoroughly enjoying her work with seniors and their families finding creative solutions to enable our clients to live independently for as long as possible.

She's married with three grown children and two grandsons.  She has volunteered in several church ministry programs, including recently spearheading fundraising for a building project for a children’s home in the mountains of Andahuaylas, Peru, where a portion of the proceeds from Touching Hearts at Home is given.

Committee Description:
The Education Committee facilitates and encourages continuing education in the field of aging for members of the organization. This committee administers scholarships for MASWA members.

Committee Description:
The Membership Committee guides MASWA members in the tasks of recruiting new members and facilitating renewal applications for current members. They also oversee the greeting table at the membership meetings.

Kristin's Biography:
Kristin Kopp, CSA, President/Founder of At Home Solutions, LLC (AHS), was elected to the MASWA Nominating Committee for the 2009-2011 term. She has over 20 years of Social Service experience serving children/adults with special needs, families in crisis and seniors. Her past positions include working at Fraser, Christian Appalachian Project, Merriam Park Community Services and as Business Administrator for St. Francis de Sales in St. Paul. She is passionate and committed about serving seniors, adults with disabilities and their families with dignity and compassion through AHS' programs. Kristin currently sits on the Community Board of the Edina Southdale YMCA, is Vice President of the BNI Fireside Chapter and volunteers with the Edina Meals on Wheels program. In her "spare" time, she enjoys boating, going on motorcycle trips, playing tennis, hiking and spending time with her family including her 11 nieces and nephews.

Committee Description:
The Nominating Committee prepares a slate of officers and committee chairs to be presented at the Annual Meeting to be voted on the Corporation's members. Also, recruits members to fill Board of Directors and Committee Chair vacancies as they occur.

Kay's Biography:
Kay Johnson, LSW, has a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis in Adulthood and Aging, and a concentration in Death, Dying and Grief.  She has worked in health care for twenty-four years. Kay is the Community Outreach Supervisor for North Memorial Home Health and Hospice and has been with North Memorial for seven years.  As a MASWA board member, Kay serves on the Communications Committee, Program Committee and is the MASWA Historian. Kay also serves on the Community Advisory Board for the Struthers Parkinson's Clinics.
Committee Description:
The Program Committee plans monthly member events, promotes those events to members, and evaluates the effectiveness of the programs.
Public Policy
Paul Blom

Paul's Biography:
Paul Blom has been on the Board since 2003 and has served as President as well as Education Chair. Paul currently serves as Treasurer and Joint Public Policy Co-Chair. Paul and his partner, Bob, own and operate Right at Home, a boutique non-medical care and assistance agency serving seniors in our community. Outside of work and the MASWA Board, Paul is President of the Parkinson Association of MN, facilitates a support group for the Alzheimer's Association, and is actively involved as a singing and board member of the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus. Paul and Bob live in rural Scott County where they enjoy gardening and outdoor activities.

Committee Description:
The Public Policy Committee enables membership to be informed of pertinent legislative and public policy issues in order to have an opportunity to respond accordingly.
